Scholarship Program

LAPRAF is proud to help make college more affordable for families who need assistance. Since 2013, the Foundation has provided annual college scholarships to deserving students. Each year LAPRAF offers seven $10,000 scholarships to graduating high school seniors. The scholarships are distributed at a rate of $2,500 per school year over four consecutive years.  The program runs from January to May and is open to the children of active or retired LAPRA members.

Eligibility Requirements

Highschool Seniors

Students must be high school seniors at the time they apply. Applications and the student’s most recently available school transcript must be submitted no later than the May 15 deadline.

GPA Requirement

Students must have achieved at least a 2.5 GPA in high school.

A parent or a legal guardian who is a member of the Los Angeles Police Relief Association (LAPRA)

Students must have a parent or a legal guardian who is a member of the Los Angeles Police Relief Association (LAPRA).

Continuing Eligibility Requirements

Maintain Full-Time Student Status

Students must maintain full-time student status at an accredited college or university (9 units or more) and maintain at least a 2.0 GPA.

Proof of continued full-time student status

Proof of continued full-time student status and GPA will be required at the beginning of each school year. The necessary information shall be submitted to the LAPRA office prior to the beginning of each school year.

Students’ scholarship funding will permanently cease if they

  1. Drop out of college unless it is for a valid emergency (valid emergencies shall be determined by the scholarship committee) or for entry into the United States military forces.
  2. Are arrested and convicted of a felony
