Eligibility

Healthcare coverage is available to active and retired LAPD officers and their eligible dependents. Click on the Eligibilty Guide(s) to view complete eligibility information. Actives

Full-time employees working 30 or more hours per week who are:

  • Recruits employed by the City of Los Angeles to become sworn police officers;
  • Sworn police officers of the LAPD;
  • Employees of the Los Angeles Police Relief Association;
  • The Los Angeles Retired Fire Police Association;
  • The Los Angeles Police Protective League; or
  • The Los Angeles Police Retirement Benefit and Insurance Association.

Retirees

  • Sworn retired employees of the Los Angeles Police Department who are receiving a pension from the City of Los Angeles Department of Fire & Police Pensions;
  • Retired employees of the Los Angeles Police Relief Association;
  • Retired employees of the Los Angeles Retired Fire and Police Association; or
  • Retired employees of the Los Angeles Police Retirement Benefit and Insurance Association.
  • Retired officers from Los Angeles Port Police, Los Angeles World Airlines and Los Angeles Park Rangers.

Dependents

  • Legal Spouse
  • Registered Domestic Partner
  • Child under age 26
  • Stepchild
  • Child of Domestic Partner
  • Disabled child age 26 or older
  • Adopted Child
  • Child of Legal Guardian

Dependent Status Verification Required

If you enroll an eligible dependent, you must submit proof of dependent status, such as a copy of a certified marriage certificate, copy of a certified birth certificate, or commemorative hospital birth certificate that lists the names of one or both parents. If you fail to submit the required proof within the 60-day period, your dependent’s coverage will automatically be canceled retroactively to the initial effective date of coverage. You may be responsible for paying for any services incurred prior to coverage being canceled.
