You can add a new spouse or domestic partnership within 31 days from the date marriage or registration of the domestic partnership.
If you miss this 31 day window, your next opportunity to make changes is during Annual Enrollment, which is the month of May. Any changes made during Annual Enrollment are effective July 1.
Proof of Dependent Eligibility, such as birth certificate, adoption certificate or guardianship order must be submitted to LAPRA at Benefits@lapra.org within 60 days of the effective date. If documentation is not received by LAPRA within 60 days of the effective date, coverage will be terminated retroactively.

Updating Your Information
Life events are an opportunity to review and update your personal information. You may want to review and update your address and your life insurance beneficiaries. To do so, go to LAPRAlive.org.
If you are changing your name or your dependent’s name, you must submit legal documentation such as a copy of a certified marriage certificate, driver license or LAPD identification card to Benefits@lapra.org.
