
The Los Angeles Police Relief Association, Inc. (LAPRA) offers and administers medical and dental plans to active and retired Los Angeles Police Officers and their families. LAPRA also provides to its members life insurance, long term disability benefits and additional support in times of need and crisis.
Who can join?
Recruits employed by the City of Los Angeles to become sworn police officers in the Los Angeles Police Department are eligible for LAPRA membership.
How can I join?
New recruits will automatically be enrolled effective on your date of hire with the LAPD.

Life Insurance
- $12,000 of LAPRA Basic Life Insurance
- $15,000 of Basic Life and $15,000 of Basic AD&D coverage through UnitedHealthcare
- Opportunity to purchase additional coverage through UnitedHealthcare
Long Term Disability – Opportunity to purchase coverage.
Long Term Care Insurance – Core plan that provides a $1,500 monthly benefit for up to two years through Unum. Opportunity to purchase additional coverage.
Emergency Relief
Limited emergency relief is available to members in dire financial need.
Off Payroll & Military Leave Benefits

Cost
$1.50 per pay period for 25 years. Coverage is free while you are in the Academy.

Optional Coverage(s)
Members have the opportunity to purchase optional coverage for Life/AD&D and Long Term Care benefits.

If dues have been paid in full, retirees may surrender their LAPRA membership benefits for a lump sum $1,500.

- $3.00 per month.
- Free for those who have paid dues for 25 years.
- Free after 25 years of service
