Healthcare coverage is available to active and retired LAPD officers and their eligible dependents. Click on the Eligibilty Guide(s) to view complete eligibility information. LAPRA offers three medical plans options administered by Anthem and Kaiser. Our medical plans provide coverage for preventive care, prescription drugs and mental health services (link to Mental Health page). Each plan qualifies as a Section 125 cafeteria plan offering active members tax advantage savings.

The Dental Plans cover preventive, basic, and major services, as well as orthodontia. Two options are available:

• Anthem PPO Dental Plan
• Anthem HMO Dental Plan (for California residents only)

LAPRA members who enroll in the Anthem PPO or the Anthem HMO automatically receive vision coverage through Vision Service Plan (VSP). Kaiser members will automatically be enrolled in the Kaiser Vision Benefits.

The LAPRA Wellness Program is free to LAPRA members 18 years or older who are enrolled in a LAPRA medical plans. It is designed to support you in developing healthy habits for a lifetime. There is no charge for the basic life insurance plans.

The Los Angeles Police Relief Association (LAPRA) offers Long Term Disability (LTD) coverage through UnitedHealthcare. LTD insurance provides income replacement if you experience an illness or injury. Generally, benefits begin after you have been unable to work for 30 consecutive days.

LAPRA provides members with an LTC Core plan, and the opportunity to purchase increased coverage. As a LAPRA member, you are automatically enrolled in the LTC Core plan provided through Unum.

The Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (COBRA) gives members and their covered dependents who lose their health benefits the right to choose to continue their LAPRA medical, dental and vision coverage for limited periods of time under certain circumstances such as voluntary or involuntary job loss, reduction in the hours worked, transition between jobs, death, divorce, and other life events. Qualified individuals may be required to pay the entire premium for coverage up to 102% of the cost to the plan.
